Croatian Coins Celebrate Tradition

In a stunning tribute to one of Croatia’s most cherished traditions, the Croatian Mint and the National Bank of Croatia release a limited collection of gold and silver coins, immortalizing the Halubje bell ringers

In a breathtaking tribute to Croatia’s living heritage, the Croatian Mint, in collaboration with the National Bank of Croatia, has launched an exclusive collection of gold and silver coins celebrating the Halubje bell ringers.

This iconic folk tradition, now inscribed on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage, has endured for centuries, with its vivid imagery of masked men, bells clanging around their waists, parading through coastal villages.

The coins, released on February 18, 2025, come in three versions: a gold 1-ounce coin (€100), a silver 1-ounce (€4), and a silver 5-ounce coin (€8), each adorned with intricate details capturing the mystical energy of the Halubje bell ringers .

Created by talented artist Chiara Principe, the designs echo the tradition’s deep cultural significance, from fertility rituals to the joyful heralding of spring’s arrival.

A limited number of coins are available—200 of the gold coin, 2,000 silver 1-ounce, and just 500 of the silver 5-ounce—offering collectors a chance to own a piece of Croatia’s extraordinary folklore.
