Croatia Among EU’s Cheapest for Household Electricity and Gas in Early 2024

Croatia continues to stand out in the EU for offering some of the lowest electricity and gas prices for households

Well below the European average, according to Eurostat data for the first half of 2024, Croatia continues to stand out in the EU for offering some of the lowest electricity and gas prices in the EU.

Across the EU, household electricity prices rose by 2.1% in the first half of the year, reaching an average of €28.9 per 100 kilowatt-hours. This follows a 3.7% decrease in the second half of 2023 and a year-on-year drop of 1.7% for January to June. In the eurozone, households paid €30.6 per 100 kilowatt-hours on average, reflecting a 1.9% increase compared to the previous six months, although a 2.1% decrease compared to the same period last year.

The rise in electricity costs across the EU is largely attributed to the gradual phasing out of energy relief measures and higher levies, which also softened the decline in gas prices in early 2024.
