Slovenia Seeks New Synergies with Japan

Slovenia pitched itself as “small in size but big in innovation” as it courts Japanese partners for a smarter, greener future

During a business forum in Tokyo, Slovenian officials outlined a strategic vision for deepening ties with Japan in smart mobility, green tech, and advanced manufacturing.

President of Slovenia’s National Council, Marko Lotrič, reportedly said Slovenia was an ideal entry point for Japanese firms eyeing the European market, citing its innovation-driven automotive suppliers and central location.

The forum—organised by Spirit Slovenia, JETRO, and the Slovenian Embassy—focused on mobility 5.0 and digital-green transformation.

Lotrič was said to have highlighted past collaborations, like the smart grid project between Slovenia’s Eles and Japan’s NEDO, as proof of shared innovation potential.

Iztok Seljak of the Managers’ Association reportedly urged both nations to reclaim global leadership by returning to core values rather than following fleeting trends.

Zoran Stamatovski described Slovenia as a stable, open and tech-savvy economy, while Ambassador Jurij Rifelj emphasised trust and the quality of Slovenian expertise.

The Slovenian delegation is continuing its outreach in Tokyo and Osaka, including a visit to the Slovenian pavilion at Expo 2025.
