Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter, was hit by a massive cyberattack today, leaving thousands of users scrambling to access the service.
The disruption, which peaked with nearly 40,000 reports of outages, comes amid a turbulent period for Musk’s empire.
In a comment, the tech mogul connected the attack to ongoing protests against his newly established government efficiency commission, Doge, which aims to dismantle various U.S. agencies he accuses of inefficiency.
Musk described the assault as a highly coordinated effort, possibly state-backed, and claimed that the attackers are targeting multiple fronts, including his Tesla stores.
Despite the chaos, service gradually returned to normal, though reports continued to trickle in.
Musk’s acquisition of X and subsequent staff cuts, including 75% of its workforce, have led to persistent technical issues and wider fallout.
As Musk’s push to reshape both private and public sectors intensifies, the stakes grow higher for his controversial plans.
