Vučić Invites Trump to Belgrade

Serbian President says Belgrade and Washington are preparing a strategic dialogue focused on energy, infrastructure, artificial intelligence, defence cooperation and investment

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has revealed that he recently invited US President Donald Trump to visit Belgrade, describing relations between Serbia and the United States as stronger than they have been in years and increasingly focused on economic cooperation.

Speaking in an interview with Fox News Digital, Vučić said Serbia and the United States are preparing to launch a strategic dialogue that would cover a wide range of sectors, including energy, infrastructure, artificial intelligence, defence cooperation and investment.

According to the Serbian president, the relationship between the two countries has evolved significantly under the current US administration, moving beyond traditional political issues and placing greater emphasis on economic development and practical cooperation.

“President Trump and his team so far were working very diligently and dedicatedly on the Western Balkans,” Vučić said, adding that many Serbian citizens view the current administration differently from previous US governments.

Vučić also expressed hope that Trump would accept an invitation to visit Serbia, arguing that such a visit would attract unprecedented public interest.

“I hope that we’ll be able to host him,” Vučić said. “More people will be ready to greet him and wait for him than he might even expect.”

While no date for a potential visit has been announced, the invitation comes at a time when Serbia is seeking to strengthen economic and political ties with key international partners while maintaining its long-standing goal of European Union membership.

The Serbian president pointed to several areas where cooperation with the United States could expand in the coming years. These include energy infrastructure projects, potential cooperation related to liquefied natural gas, digital infrastructure, data centres and advanced computing technologies.

The planned strategic dialogue also reflects Serbia’s broader ambition to position itself as a regional hub for investment, innovation and technology. Over the past decade, the country has attracted significant foreign direct investment and expanded its role as a manufacturing and logistics centre for Southeast Europe.

Vučić highlighted preparations for Expo 2027 in Belgrade as another indication of Serbia’s growing international profile. The specialised exhibition is expected to bring together nearly 150 participating countries and is being promoted by the government as one of the most important international events ever hosted by Serbia.

The strengthening relationship between Belgrade and Washington comes amid a period of geopolitical uncertainty in Europe and renewed international attention on the Western Balkans. Regional governments are increasingly seeking investment partnerships, energy security and technological cooperation as they navigate economic transformation and EU integration processes.

For Serbia, closer engagement with the United States could provide additional momentum for infrastructure development, technology investments and broader economic cooperation, while reinforcing its position as one of the region’s largest and fastest-growing economies.
