Koper Port operator Luka Koper and French shipping giant CMA CGM are establishing a joint venture dedicated to car transshipment, following strengthened cooperation announced during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit in October. The new company will be formed together with Ceva Corporate Services, a CMA CGM subsidiary, according to a concentration report released by Slovenia’s competition watchdog.
The project is expected to reinforce Slovenia’s position as a strategic gateway to Europe, especially within the fast-developing India–Middle East–Europe economic corridor.
The 2.7-hectare site, located outside Luka Koper’s concession area, will be used for logistics services for the automotive industry, including import and export of vehicles.
CMA CGM is Luka Koper’s second-largest shipping partner and employs more than 100 people in Slovenia. The port continues to post strong results: 684,269 cars were handled in the first three quarters, 7% more than last year, while sales revenue rose 16% and net profit 26%. Full-year revenue is expected to approach €370 million.
