Consumers in Bosnia and Herzegovina may soon face higher milk prices, as producers from Tuzla Canton warn that increases are unavoidable due to unfavorable weather, higher electricity prices, and rising minimum wages. The purchase price of milk, currently around 0.80 BAM per liter, can no longer cover production costs, farmers say. The cheapest milk on store shelves could soon reach three BAM, while the prices of other dairy products are also expected to rise.
Dairy farmers warn that the sector is “on the verge of survival,” urging authorities at all levels to support agricultural production and mitigate the impact of climate change. While producers in the Federation push for higher purchase prices, the Association of Dairy Farmers of Republika Srpska says prices in that entity will remain unchanged for now. Despite a modest increase in milk output by three million liters, Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to rely heavily on imports, leaving both farmers and consumers vulnerable to market fluctuations.
