Chinese-Spanish Collaboration to Power Albania’s Floating Future

A 13.9 million euros project will transform Albania’s Vau i Dejes lake into a cutting-edge floating soar hub, showcasing the power of international partnerships

A groundbreaking partnership between China’s Sungrow, a luminary in solar and wind technology, and Spain’s engineering virtuoso Gamma Solutions has culminated in the acquisition of a 13.9 million euros tender.

The duo is set to orchestrate the creation of Albania’s inaugural floating photovoltaic (PV) plant – a 12.9 MW marvel poised to adorn the tranquil expanse of Vau i Dejes lake, adjacent to its iconic hydropower facility.

This transformative project, spearheaded by Solar Energy of Albania (SENA), a subsidiary of state-owned energy titan KESH, epitomises a bold leap toward energy diversification.

Financial backing is spearheaded by a 7.48 million euros loan from European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, complemented by 2.6 million euros in grants from EU’s Western Balkans Investment Framework, with an additional 1.9 million euros from the Albanian government.

KESH, a vanguard in renewable energy, has long championed innovation, with the Zadeja dam solar plan marking its initial foray into solar energy in 2022.

This floating solar endeavour underscores Albania’s commitment to pioneering sustainable energy solutions while exemplifying the potential of cross-border collaboration to reimagine the future of energy.
