Zagreb Launches Automated License Plate Recognition Vehicles

Zagreb introduces high-tech system to streamline parking enforcement

Zagrebparking, a branch of Zagrebački holding, has introduced vehicles equipped with an automatic license plate recognition system, marking the end of a successful testing phase. These new “scan-a-car” vehicles are designed to monitor parking payments on public lots using advanced camera systems. The system detects vehicles without valid parking permits and automatically issues a daily parking ticket, which will be sent directly to the registered address of the vehicle owner instead of being placed on the windshield.

Each scan-a-car is equipped with six cameras and a built-in information system that identifies license plates and cross-checks them in real-time with the parking database. If no valid permit is found, the system generates a ticket and sends it to the registered home or business address, or to the owner’s email.

This project aims to enhance parking enforcement efficiency. Two vehicles were acquired last year, with plans to add two more next year. This initiative represents a significant step towards modernizing parking management in Zagreb.
