Speaking during a ceremonial session marking Bol Municipality Day, Plenković highlighted a series of completed and upcoming projects on Brač, describing them as part of Croatia’s broader policy of balanced regional development, with a strong focus on its island communities.
Among the key projects are the expansion of the Port of Bol, aimed at strengthening the island’s tourism offer—particularly in the growing nautical tourism sector—the construction of a new fire station, the renovation of the local cinema and the development of a multifunctional community hall.
The prime minister also pointed to wider government efforts to improve living conditions on Croatia’s islands, noting that around 127,000 people live across the country’s island communities. He cited the National Island Development Plan until 2027 and the new Islands Act as the main strategic frameworks guiding future investment.
Plenković said unemployment on Croatia’s islands has fallen to around 2,200 people, attributing the trend to continued investment in education, transport infrastructure, ports, fishing harbours and water supply systems.
One of the largest upcoming infrastructure projects will be the construction of the Omiš–Brač underwater water pipeline, valued at approximately €20 million, which is expected to improve the island’s long-term water security and support future development.
With tourism remaining one of Brač’s key economic drivers, the Croatian government says continued investment in infrastructure and public services is intended to ensure that the island remains one of the country’s most attractive destinations while improving the quality of life for local residents year-round.
