Zoran Milanović Secures Landslide Victory in Croatia’s Presidential Race

Milanović’s decisive win marks the largest margin in Croatia’s presidential history, delivering a major setback to the ruling HDZ party

In a resounding display of public support, Croatia’s incumbent president, Zoran Milanović, has claimed a historic victory in the second round of the presidential elections. Garnering an estimated 75% of the vote, Milanović left his rival, Dragan Primorac, trailing far behind with just 25%, according to preliminary results released by the electoral commission.

This sweeping triumph marks a significant milestone in Croatia’s electoral history, representing the largest margin of victory in a second-round presidential vote since 2000. Milanović’s win is not only a testament to his enduring popularity but also signals a powerful endorsement of his leadership as he prepares to embark on another term at Pantovčak.

Shortly after the exit polls predicted his emphatic win, Milanović addressed his supporters in characteristic brevity, posting a simple yet poignant “Thank you” on social media.

Conversely, Primorac, the candidate of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), made an unconventional early concession speech from his campaign headquarters, expressing gratitude to his party and supporters. However, his defeat delivers a blow to the HDZ, which had enjoyed recent successes in both the European Parliament and parliamentary elections.
