North Macedonia’s Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikoloski, announced that a new direct air route between Ohrid and Basel would begin operating on 27 October—significantly earlier than originally planned.
He stated that the connection, operated by WizzAir, would strengthen ties with the Macedonian diaspora and support the country’s tourism sector.
Nikoloski explained that the Basel–Ohrid route was part of a wider programme of subsidised flights and would connect passengers to EuroAirport, a key European hub located near Basel, Mulhouse, and Freiburg, at the crossroads of Switzerland, France, and Germany.
He said tickets for the new line were already available, and described the development as an important step for North Macedonia’s international connectivity.
In a separate announcement, he also revealed that flights from Skopje to Larnaca, Cyprus, would commence on 31 October, further expanding the country’s aviation network.
