Rijeka Gateway Project: Transforming Croatia into Europe’s Most Advanced Port

A transformative €380 million investment is set to make Croatia’s Rijeka Port the most modern port in this part of Europe, positioning it as a pivotal hub in global trade

The Rijeka Gateway project, spearheaded by APM Terminals (Maersk) and ENNA Group, aims to launch the region’s first fully automated and remotely controlled container terminal by 2025, a year when global trade volumes are projected to grow by 3.3 percent.

This ambitious project, the largest in Rijeka Port’s history, will see over €200 million invested in its initial phase, with an additional €180 million planned for the second phase over the next decade. The terminal is expected to create more than 300 new jobs, bringing significant benefits to the local community.

Peter Corfitsen, general manager of Rijeka Gateway, emphasized the project’s potential to elevate Rijeka’s status as a key player in European trade. The terminal will be a showcase of sustainable business practices, employing cutting-edge technologies to achieve zero carbon emissions and reduce light and sound pollution.

As global logistics continue to navigate turbulent times, the Rijeka Gateway represents a bold step forward, positioning Croatia at the forefront of European trade and technological innovation.
