The programme will be offered by the Mechanical Engineering and Traffic School in Šibenik and is designed to equip students with a broad range of technical and maintenance skills. Participants will receive training in areas such as repairs, installation work, basic construction tasks and maintenance services that are increasingly sought after by households and businesses alike.
The first generation of students is expected to begin training in the upcoming academic year, with the programme combining classroom instruction and practical work experience.
Educators and local authorities believe the initiative will help tackle the shortage of skilled tradespeople while offering young people an alternative career path focused on practical knowledge and hands-on experience. The curriculum has been developed in cooperation with industry representatives to ensure that graduates possess skills that match current labour market needs.
The launch reflects a wider effort in Croatia to strengthen vocational education and encourage enrolment in technical professions, sectors that continue to face labour shortages across the country. Officials hope the programme will improve employment prospects for students while supporting local economic development.
