Harry Kane Wins First Ballon d’Or After Record-Breaking Season

The Bayern Munich striker becomes the first English player to win football’s most prestigious individual award since Michael Owen in 2001

Harry Kane has won the 2026 Ballon d’Or, recognising an outstanding season for Bayern Munich and England. The 33-year-old striker received the award at a ceremony held at the London Palladium in London, becoming the first English winner in 25 years. The trophy was presented by Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazário, widely known as the original Ronaldo.

Kane enjoyed a prolific campaign for Bayern Munich, scoring 73 goals in 65 appearances across all competitions during the period considered for the award. His performances also earned him the Men’s Striker of the Year prize, adding another distinction to a season in which his goalscoring consistency made him one of the leading contenders for football’s highest individual honour.

Born in London in 1993, Kane began his professional career at Tottenham Hotspur, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading goalscorers before joining Bayern Munich in 2023. He is also England’s captain and all-time leading goalscorer, having represented his country at multiple major international tournaments.

His Ballon d’Or victory marks a major milestone in a career defined by consistent goalscoring and leadership at the highest level of European football.

The ceremony also recognised achievements across both men’s and women’s football. Spain’s Lamine Yamal won the Men’s Young Talent of the Year award, while Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente was named Men’s Coach of the Year. Unai Simón received the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year award, Paris Saint-Germain was named Men’s Club of the Year for the second consecutive time, and Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka received the Sócrates Award for his humanitarian work through the BigShoe charity.

In the women’s categories, Spain and Barcelona star Alexia Putellas won the Ballon d’Or Féminin for the third time. Barcelona was named Women’s Club of the Year, goalkeeper Cata Coll received the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award, and Vicky López won Women’s Young Talent of the Year. Pere Romeu was named Women’s Coach of the Year, underlining the strong showing by Spanish players and Barcelona across the ceremony.
