The Belgrade Taxi Association SITAB has voiced strong opposition to the government’s plan to liberalize the taxi sector, which includes allowing an unlimited number of vehicles and free pricing. The association argued that such measures would not serve the public interest or protect existing taxi operators.
According to SITAB, Belgrade currently has 6,410 licensed taxi operators, contributing around €1.16 million monthly to the city budget.
The association stressed that moving to a dynamic pricing system could create uncertainty for both passengers and drivers, undermining regulated fares and leading to potential exploitation.
SITAB also criticized the recent taxi decree for being issued without public consultation or proper involvement of taxi representatives. The association has repeatedly submitted proposals for improving the sector, including calls for stricter oversight by the Ministry of Transport, but claims that authorities have largely ignored their recommendations.
