Zagreb Expands Tram Fleet And Signs €111M Upgrade Deal

Zagreb has marked a major advance in its public transport modernisation with the completion of the first 20 new low‑floor trams for the city’s network and the signing of EU‑funded contracts worth over €111 million for further upgrades.

The agreements include the procurement of an additional 20 new trams and 62 electric buses, aiming to significantly enhance service quality, accessibility, and sustainability across the capital’s transit system.

Mayor Tomislav Tomašević and national officials highlighted that the new vehicles — produced by Croatian manufacturer KONČAR — will improve reliability, passenger comfort, and environmental performance, reducing congestion and emissions. The investments are part of the largest transport modernisation cycle in Zagreb in over a decade, supported by EU funds through national recovery and cohesion programmes.
