Montenegro’s Tourism Surge Draws New UK Flights and Spotlight at WTM 2023

Montenegro has been heralded as one of Europe's rising stars in tourism, particularly among British holidaymakers, as reported by the European Travel Commission

The nation recorded a substantial 30% increase in visitor numbers from the UK within the first seven months of the year, compared to last year, and a 23% rise compared to pre-pandemic 2019.

This surge places Montenegro second in Europe for growth in UK tourist arrivals. The positive trend is expected to soar higher with new flight connections announced for the next tourist season. Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, major players in the UK travel industry, will extend their services to Montenegro, introducing flights from Birmingham and London to accompany the existing Manchester route.

The announcement came as Montenegro showcased its offerings at the prestigious World Travel Market 2023 in London. Montenegro’s tourism sector’s significant interest in the event underscores the UK’s priority as a target market.

National Tourist Organization director Dr. Ana Tripković Marković led the Montenegrin delegation, noting the fair’s importance for cementing relationships with British agents and media.

Montenegro’s enhanced profile follows vigorous promotional efforts, with the anticipated new air links further bolstering the appeal to British tourists. Jet2’s CEO Steve Heapy lauded the strong demand and the introduction of new routes for summer 2024, reflecting confidence in Montenegro’s increasing allure.

At the fair, Tripković Marković engaged with key media and tour operators, also securing an interview with renowned British journalist and presenter Jonathan Phanga for the global TV History Channel.
