Croatia Eyes Skyward: More Direct US Flights by 2026

Surging American tourism fuels Croatia’s push for deeper transatlantic ties

In a bid to capitalise on a surge in American visitors, Croatia is actively working to expand its transatlantic air connections, with new direct flights to the US targeted by 2026.

Currently, Dubrovnik stands alone with a seasonal United Airlines link to Newark, but officials say one route is not enough.

Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman has recently discussed potential new routes with leaders in Florida, while the Croatian Tourist Board continues to pitch the country as an increasingly attractive—and accessible—European destination.

Over 260,000 American tourists have already visited Croatia in the first half of 2025, up 16% from last year, signalling a market ripe for expansion.

Airport director Viktor Šober points to aircraft shortages and production delays as major hurdles, but remains optimistic: “We expect something concrete within a year or two.”

With American, Delta, and United Airlines soon to unveil their 2026 schedules, eyes will be on whether Croatia makes the cut in the next wave of long-haul European connections.
