American Firms Flourish in Croatia

Despite the strong growth of American companies in Croatia, looming trade barriers under Trump’s tariff policy threaten to dampen optimism

American companies in Croatia are thriving. According to the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), 64% of companies saw better results in 2024 than in the previous year, with many expanding their workforce.

With Croatia offering a competitive business environment, particularly compared to other Central and Eastern European nations, the future seems bright for American investors.

Yet, challenges persist, including rising wages, inflation, and a lack of skilled labour.

As AmCham’s executive director Andrea Doko Jelušić highlights, over half of companies plan salary increases to remain competitive.

However, looming trade tariffs imposed by former US President Donald Trump could jeopardise this momentum. His 25% tariffs on EU products could particularly impact smaller firms trying to stay competitive in European markets.

While large American corporations with European manufacturing plants may weather the storm, the potential for decreased demand for US goods is a real concern.

Despite this, AmCham remains cautiously optimistic, noting the continued strength of transatlantic ties and Croatia’s attractiveness as a destination for American business.
