Končar Unveils World’s First Battery-Powered Regional Train

Hailing as the first fully battery-powered regional train, Končar’s groundbreaking innovation is leading the charge in green transport, now recognized by UNESCO’s global initiative

In a significant move towards sustainable transport, Croatian engineering giant Končar has unveiled its revolutionary fully battery-powered regional train, which is poised to make waves on the international stage.

As the official partner for UNESCO’s World Engineering Day 2025, Končar is celebrating not only its 80th anniversary but also the 10th anniversary of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

This cutting-edge train, which made its international debut at InnoTrans in Berlin, showcases Končar’s unwavering commitment to green innovation.

With a top speed of 120 km/h, a dual-carriage composition, and a capacity for 216 passengers, the train is powered by high-capacity lithium NMC batteries mounted on the roof.

The train boasts an impressive 736 kWh energy capacity and adheres to the most stringent European safety standards for lithium batteries.

As one of the only companies in this global campaign, Končar underscores Croatia’s pivotal role in shaping the future of eco-conscious transport.
