Montenegro Joins Global Initiative for Sustainable Blue Economy

Montenegro has officially joined the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership, a key global effort to protect oceans and promote sustainable economic growth

In a major milestone for Montenegro’s environmental and economic future, the country has become the latest member of the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership.

Announced at the General Assembly on 25 November 2024, this move integrates Montenegro into a network of 74 partner institutions from 30 countries, committed to joint research, development, and the alignment of national programs on a pan-European level. The Partnership’s vision is to regenerate ocean and marine health, enhance resilience, and foster climate-neutral, sustainable, and productive economic activities.

Focused on areas like ocean digital twins, blue economy sectors, marine resource management, and resilient coastal communities, the Partnership’s long-term goals include transitioning to a sustainable blue economy by 2030 and ensuring healthy oceans by 2050.

Montenegro’s participation will enable its organisations to engage in global calls for projects, alongside counterparts from other nations. The Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation plans to host informational sessions in 2025 to ensure timely and comprehensive participation
