Taiwan and Kosovo* Strengthen Parliamentary and Democratic Ties

Taiwan's Legislative Speaker, Han Kuo-yu, heralded the growing relationship between Taiwan and Kosovo* during a meeting with a visiting delegation from Kosovo, led by former Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti.

The meeting, which emphasized a mutual commitment to democracy and freedom, highlighted the shared struggles and aspirations of the two nations.

Han expressed pride in Taiwan being the first Asian country to recognize Kosovo* after its 2008 declaration of independence. He pointed to the establishment of sister city relations between Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and Pristina, Kosovo*, as a cornerstone for future exchanges, particularly hoping to deepen interactions between their respective parliaments.

Speaking on behalf of the Kosovo* delegation, lawmaker Artan Abrashi lauded Taiwan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and stability and acknowledged Taiwan as a model of democratic progress and prosperity. He noted that most Kosovo* parliamentarians are eager to strengthen ties with Taiwan, viewing it as a vital inspiration for Kosovo’s ongoing reforms and development.

The visit underscores a significant effort to foster bilateral cooperation and enhance parliamentary exchanges, following a previous cross-party Kosovar parliamentary group’s visit to Taiwan in March.
