Wizz Air Reconnects Niš and Dortmund: Boost for Economic Growth

Wizz Air's return to Niš marks a turning point for southern Serbia’s aviation and economic ambitions

Southern Serbia is set to strengthen its air links with Western Europe as low-cost carrier Wizz Air resumes flights between Niš and Dortmund starting January 5, 2026.

Operated twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, the route will depart from the newly constructed terminal at Niš’s “Constantine the Great” Airport—a symbol of the region’s growing connectivity.

This development comes as Niš Airport records its most successful month of 2025, with passenger numbers in June up 16% year-on-year.

Cargo traffic has surged by an impressive 36% in the first half of the year, reflecting a broader strategic push into logistics.

For a region long overshadowed by Belgrade, the return of Wizz Air signals more than just new flights—it’s a revival of economic confidence and a fresh foothold in European travel networks.
