Slovenia is set to join the European Space Agency (ESA) as a full member, a move that will unlock new opportunities for the country’s burgeoning space sector. This milestone, effective from January 2025, is expected to drive innovation and technological advancements, with significant state support needed to match the high investment demands of space technologies.
Slovenia’s long-standing expertise in Earth observation, satellite technology, and miniaturised systems has already placed it at the forefront of global capabilities in weather forecasting, climate monitoring, and disaster management. Full ESA membership will amplify these strengths, opening doors to enhanced funding, research programs, and international collaborations.
While the €2.8 million annual fee presents a challenge, Slovenia is poised to benefit from the vast opportunities on the horizon.
