Serbia has officially joined the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), becoming its 41st member, the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) announced.
The bank stated that this step came after aligning Serbia’s payment systems and regulations with EU standards, describing it as a key move on the country’s path toward European integration.
Officials explained that joining SEPA would enable cheaper and more efficient transactions with EU countries, reducing costs for both businesses and individuals.
The NBS emphasised that the move was more than a technical adjustment, calling it a significant advancement in Serbia’s economic and financial connectivity with Europe.
The central bank said that citizens and companies could now expect smoother euro transfers and lower banking fees, which could strengthen trade and investment ties with EU partners.
Serbia’s inclusion in SEPA, they added, reflected its broader commitment to meeting European norms and advancing toward EU membership.
