In 2024, Dubrovnik commemorated a remarkable milestone: 45 years since its Old Town was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list. This anniversary was not just a reflection of the city’s past grandeur, but a celebration of its dynamic future.
Over 200 events, curated by 35 institutions, showcased Dubrovnik’s cultural vibrancy. Key highlights included the inclusion of the Dubrovnik Republic’s archival collections in UNESCO’s Memory of the World register and the 15-year anniversary of the St. Blaise Festival’s inscription on the Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

The city’s ongoing devotion to heritage was evident in exhibitions such as “Dubrovnik and UNESCO,” which revealed rare historical treasures, and a special tribute to St. Blaise, the patron saint.
As the celebrations reached a crescendo in October, UNESCO symbols adorned the city’s gates and the ‘Heritage Champions’ award was presented.
Looking ahead to 2025, Dubrovnik is poised to mark the 100th anniversary of its Symphony Orchestra, the 80th of its Art Gallery, and the 60th of the Linđo Folklore Ensemble—solidifying its place as a Mediterranean cultural beacon.
