Croatia Wins U20 European Water Polo Gold in Varna

Croatia’s U20 men’s water polo team has won the European Championship title in Varna, Bulgaria, adding another major trophy to the country’s impressive record in the sport

Croatia defeated Spain 17:14 in the final, securing the gold medal after a closely contested match. The victory underlines the strength of Croatia’s youth water polo programme and its ability to consistently develop players capable of competing at the highest international level.

The triumph also adds to a particularly successful period for Croatian water polo. The country has long been one of the leading forces in European and world water polo, with its senior national team regularly competing for medals at the Olympic Games, World Championships and European Championships.

The U20 title is particularly encouraging for the future of the national team, as the players who dominated in Varna represent the next generation of Croatian water polo. Croatia’s strong club system and long-standing water polo tradition have helped create a steady pipeline of young talent.

The final also highlighted the strength of the sport across the Western Balkans. Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro remain among the region’s traditional water polo powers, making youth competitions such as the European U20 Championship an important platform for developing the next generation of elite players.
