Eric Wendt Confirmed as Next U.S. Ambassador to Albania

The U.S. Senate confirmed Wendt by 51 votes to 47, following his earlier approval by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee

Lieutenant General (ret.) Eric Wendt has been confirmed as the next U.S. Ambassador to Albania, with the Albanian government welcoming his appointment.

Wendt is expected to take up his post in Tirana, where he will focus on strengthening U.S.-Albania security cooperation, supporting a stronger NATO alliance and promoting closer economic ties between the two countries.

His appointment comes as the U.S.-Albania relationship remains closely centred on defence and security cooperation, with Albania being a NATO member since 2009 and a long-standing U.S. partner in the region. Wendt’s military background is therefore particularly relevant to the role, as Washington and Tirana continue to place strong emphasis on collective security and NATO’s role in the Western Balkans.

Albanian authorities said they look forward to welcoming Wendt and working with him to advance President Donald Trump’s priorities on shared security, NATO and fair opportunities for American businesses.
