Bosnia and Herzegovina has launched amendments to its List of Narcotic Drugs for the first time in 14 years, aiming to tighten control over designer drugs and synthetic opioids, the Ministry of Civil Affairs announced after a meeting in Sarajevo on December 9.
The proposed changes include the addition of 112 new psychoactive substances, among them highly potent synthetic opioids such as carfentanil, new psychoactive cannabinoids and designer benzodiazepines.
Officials warn these substances pose a serious risk of overdose and acute intoxication, and say their inclusion will allow stronger legal control, prevention of illegal distribution and sanctions against offenders.
Authorities stressed that updating the list is essential to keep pace with rapidly emerging substances on the illicit market and to align BiH legislation with international drug control standards, strengthening coordination between health, security and judicial institutions.
