Albania Updates Criminal Code to Boost Business Transparency and Justice

Albania’s Ministers of Justice and Economy held a roundtable with business associations to discuss the draft of a new Penal Code, aiming to modernize legal standards and protect the economy.

Justice Minister Besfort Lamallari emphasized that the Code is intended to be long-lasting, addressing economic crime, tax evasion, financial market abuses, cryptocurrencies, and money laundering, while ensuring all stakeholders are heard.

Minister Delina Ibrahimaj highlighted that the Code seeks greater clarity and fairness for businesses, covering taxes, customs, competition, labor relations, bankruptcy, and anti-money laundering measures. The reforms aim to align with EU directives, reduce ambiguity, and create a more transparent and just legal framework for economic activity.
