Adria Bakes Under Intense Heatwave

Late July sun pushes temperatures past seasonal norms

From Slovenia’s coast to Serbia’s plains, much of the Adria region sweltered under extreme heat on 25 and 26 July. Daily highs reached 30–35 °C, with some inland zones in Serbia and North Macedonia soaring past 40 °C, prompting health warnings and fire alerts.

Slovenia, particularly its western and coastal regions, saw hot and dry conditions, with temperatures in Ljubljana and Koper climbing into the low 30s. Authorities advised the public to avoid peak sun hours and conserve water as soil moisture dropped sharply.

While Croatia and Montenegro reported clear skies and minimal rain, Bosnia and Herzegovina experienced isolated afternoon showers. Albania endured intense heat and drought conditions, consistent with the Mediterranean-wide weather anomaly.

Across the region, emergency services remain on alert as the heatwave shows signs of persisting into the weekend.
