First Direct Train from Warsaw Arrives in Rijeka

A new summer rail link now connects Warsaw and Rijeka, offering a scenic, comfortable route between Poland and Croatia three times a week

A new milestone in European travel was marked on Saturday as the first direct passenger train from Warsaw arrived in Rijeka, launching a seasonal rail service between Poland and Croatia.

The train, carrying 161 passengers, was greeted with music and a formal welcome programme at Rijeka’s main station.

Officials said the route, running via Vienna and Ljubljana, would operate three times a week in July and August, aiming to boost tourism along the Kvarner coast.

Rijeka’s mayor, Iva Rinčić, said the connection represented more than just improved transport—it symbolised growing cultural, economic, and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Tourism officials added that ticket prices start at €44.90 for seats, with sleeper options from €66.90, and confirmed stops in Šapjane and Matulji.

Guests from Warsaw and Katowice toured Rijeka and Opatija before returning north on Sunday evening, as Croatia and Poland entered a new era of rail connectivity.
