Ohrid’s Traditional Boat Leads the Charge

A traditional Ohrid boat, now reimagined with solar panels and an electric motor, sets a new standard for eco-friendly water transport at the International Nautical Fair

Amidst a sea of sleek yachts and high-powered motorboats at the International Nautical Fair in Belgrade, one vessel stood out—a reimagined Ohrid boat, an emblem of ancient tradition now fitted with cutting-edge green technology.

Presented by the “Green City” association from Ohrid, this unique boat integrates solar panels and an electric motor, marking a pioneering step toward sustainable water transport on the region’s iconic lake.

Crafted from eco-friendly materials, including wood and metal, the boat’s motor is powered by energy harnessed from the sun, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

This bold project also aims to catalyse the transition to renewable energy for lake transport, preserving the pristine waters and biodiversity of Lake Ohrid.

With plans for further testing on the lake, the boat not only reflects the rich cultural heritage of the region but also offers a glimpse into the future of green maritime transport.

It’s a symbol of how tradition can meet innovation, offering hope for a cleaner, greener future on the water.
