Nika Prevc Makes History In Planica With World Record And Crystal Globe

Slovenian ski jumping star crowns a dominant season with a record-breaking performance and landmark victory.

Slovenia’s ski jumping champion Nika Prevc delivered a historic performance in Planica, winning the inaugural women’s ski flying event and setting a new world record during training on the iconic hill. The 21-year-old soared to 242.5 metres, surpassing her previous record of 236 metres set in Vikersund last year, and securing her place at the forefront of the sport. She capped off the season by claiming her third consecutive overall World Cup title, underlining her dominance on the global stage.

Competing in front of a packed crowd of 30,000 at Planica Nordic Centre, Prevc went on to win the first-ever women’s competition on the venue with jumps of 228.5 and 221 metres, finishing well ahead of Norway’s Eirin Kvandal and Japan’s Nozomi Maruyama.

The event marked a milestone for women’s ski flying, as only the top-ranked athletes were invited to compete on one of the sport’s most demanding hills.

The achievement also cements a unique chapter in ski jumping history for the Prevc family. Her brother, Domen Prevc, holds the men’s world record at the same venue, meaning Planica now hosts both records. With both siblings excelling at the highest level, the season will be remembered as one of rare dominance, highlighting Slovenia’s continued prominence in the sport.
