Macron Hails Serbia as a Key EU Partner During Official Visit

During his visit to Serbia, French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized Serbia's crucial role in the EU, highlighted strong bilateral ties, and announced continued cooperation in various sectors, including AI and infrastructure

French President Emmanuel Macron, during his visit to Serbia, emphasised the importance of reliable friendships and shared historical ties, stating that in an unstable world, such relationships are invaluable.

After meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Macron affirmed that Serbia’s place is in the European Union and stressed the mutual need for a strong Serbia within a robust and sovereign EU.

He also highlighted the progress made in bilateral relations over the past five years, particularly in economic cooperation and infrastructure projects like the Belgrade Metro.

Macron’s visit was marked by the exchange of twelve significant agreements between the two countries, covering areas such as environmental protection, agriculture, infrastructure, and cultural cooperation. Key among these was a Memorandum of Understanding between the Serbian Government and the French Development Agency, which has invested nearly €600 million in Serbia since 2019 and plans further expansion

On the second day of his visit, Macron attended the “Innovate Together in Europe” Forum on Artificial Intelligence in Novi Sad, where he announced France’s upcoming AI summit and highlighted Serbia’s role in global AI initiatives.

He also toured the Matica Srpska Gallery, expressing regret that his visit could not be longer, and later thanked Serbia for the warm welcome, reaffirming the strong bond between the two nations.
