David Kovačič Takes Helm at SPAR Croatia

Slovenian retail ace David Kovačič set to lead SPAR Croatia, balancing national independence with smart synergy

In a strategic cross-border move, David Kovačič, the man credited with catapulting SPAR Slovenia to market leadership, is stepping up as CEO of SPAR Croatia—while continuing to steer its Slovenian counterpart.

The seasoned retail executive, with roots in both Slovenia and Croatia, brings a rare blend of regional insight and international acumen, honed through stints at Hofer, Tuš, and global consultancy giants PwC and Deloitte.

His appointment signals continuity and ambition: both SPAR Croatia and Slovenia will retain their national autonomy, but benefit from shared structural strengths.

Paul Klotz of SPAR Austria affirmed that there was no plan to merge the two organisations, explaining that they were fostering local identity while sharpening efficiency.

Meanwhile, David Kovačič, who had already spent two years with SPAR Croatia and was poised to further the brand’s market impact, expressed his honor at the opportunity.

He noted that SPAR Croatia was on an excellent trajectory and indicated that they would continue to grow with purpose.
