Slovenian motorway operator DARS has posted record revenues of €583 million for 2024, marking a 7% rise from the previous year.
The surge is largely attributed to a 5% increase in toll income, driven by higher traffic levels across Slovenia’s key routes. Net profit grew 6%, reaching €153 million.
At a press conference in Ljubljana, DARS board member David Skornšek revealed that the bulk of revenue came from truck tolls, which rose by 3% to €275 million.
Electronic toll payments also saw a 5% jump, totaling €534 million. Sales of e-vignettes, crucial for tourists, grew 7%, amounting to €241 million.
The company also issued 84,000 fines, with foreign drivers accounting for over half. Additionally, tolls at the Karavanke Tunnel brought in €18 million, maintaining last year’s figures.
Looking ahead, DARS is focused on significant infrastructure projects, including a new tunnel at the Karavanke border crossing, due in 2026.
To alleviate congestion around Ljubljana, a dynamic speed management system will be introduced this summer, along with a new motorway exit near Dragomer.
