China Connects World’s Largest Solar Plant to Power Grid

China has inaugurated the world's largest solar power plant, enhancing its leadership in global renewable energy

China’s PowerChina has successfully connected the world’s largest solar power plant to the grid. Located near Urumqi in the autonomous region of Xinjiang, the facility boasts an impressive capacity of 3.5 gigawatts (GW).

Spanning over 809 square kilometers, the solar park is expected to generate 6.09 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity annually. This output can supply energy to approximately three million Chinese households, meeting the energy needs of a state the size of Luxembourg.

This achievement underscores China’s ambitious renewable energy plans, reinforcing its position as a global leader in solar power. The completion of this plant is a significant milestone, and the commencement of another major solar project in Xinjiang, with a capacity of 4.6 GW, has also been announced.

Built using the latest technology, the solar facility near Urumqi is anticipated to operate with exceptional efficiency, further bolstering China’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy sector.
