A pivotal infrastructure project has officially broken ground in eastern Croatia, signalling a new chapter in regional connectivity.
On 7 May, Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Oleg Butković presided over the signing of a €160 million contract to construct the 14.75-kilometre expressway between Brestovac and Godinjak near Požega.
The project, awarded to China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC)—renowned for delivering the landmark Pelješac Bridge—marks the largest roadworks deal since that monumental build.
The new expressway promises to slash travel times, link Požega directly to the A3 motorway, and breathe economic life into an area that has waited over two decades for such access.
The route includes a 1.65 km tunnel, five viaducts, multiple overpasses, and interchanges—underscoring its strategic and engineering complexity.
Local officials hailed it as a historic moment for the Požega-Slavonia County, long hindered by transport isolation.
CRBC’s growing footprint in Croatia now stretches from coast to continent—one project at a time.
