Albania and Kosovo* Lead Western Balkan Asylum Applications in EU

In early 2024, Albania and Kosovo led the Western Balkans in asylum applications to EU countries, according to the European Union Agency for Asylum

In the first three months of 2024, citizens from Albania and Kosovo topped the list of asylum applicants from the Western Balkans in European Union countries.

According to the latest report from the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA), the number of applicants from these two countries was significantly higher compared to neighboring countries such as North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.

The EUAA report indicated that in March, there were 624 asylum applications submitted by Albanian citizens and 513 from Kosovo citizens to European Union countries.

Additionally, there were 340 applications from North Macedonia, 272 from Serbia, 109 from Bosnia, and 37 from Montenegro.
