The restaurants are expected to open at Ušće Shopping Center and Beo Shopping Center in Belgrade, although the exact opening dates have yet to be announced. The arrival is likely to attract attention from local fast-food fans, many of whom have been waiting for the brand to enter the Serbian market.
Founded in Miami, Florida, in 1954, Burger King has grown into one of the world’s largest hamburger chains, with approximately 19,000 restaurants across more than 100 countries and territories. The brand is best known for its flame-grilled burgers and signature Whopper, and has built a global following through its distinctive menu and customisable meals. Its arrival in Serbia also reflects a broader expansion of international food brands across Southeast Europe, where Burger King already operates in several markets, including Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
Another American fast-food name, Taco Bell, recently entered the Serbian market, opening its first restaurant at Ušće Shopping Center in November 2025 before expanding to Novi Sad. For years, McDonald’s and KFC were among the most recognisable international fast-food options in Serbia, but the growing presence of global chains is bringing more variety to the market.
The expansion comes in a region with a rich culinary heritage, where traditional food remains an important part of local culture, but where international fast-food brands also have their audience. For many consumers, trying a familiar global favourite is an occasional treat or a convenient option during a busy day. As with any type of food, balance and moderation matter, and enjoying a burger from time to time need not mean giving up the pleasure of exploring the region’s diverse culinary traditions.
