Slovenian Foreign Minister Tone Kajzer met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas in Brussels ahead of the upcoming EU Foreign Affairs Council, presenting the key priorities of the country’s foreign policy under the new government.
Kajzer said Slovenia will focus on strengthening European security, continued support for Ukraine, EU enlargement, particularly towards the Western Balkans, and reinforcing the transatlantic alliance. He also stressed that Slovenia will advocate for a more connected, decisive and active common foreign and security policy among the EU’s 27 member states.
The minister welcomed the opportunity for closer cooperation with Kallas at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty, noting that international crises are increasingly affecting the daily lives of European citizens. He emphasized that coordinated action within the European Union remains essential in responding to security challenges and preserving stability across the continent.
The meeting reflects the priorities of Slovenia’s new government, which has signalled that European integration, regional stability and stronger cooperation with NATO allies will remain at the centre of its foreign policy agenda. Support for the Western Balkans’ EU perspective continues to be one of Ljubljana’s longstanding diplomatic priorities, with Slovenian officials regularly advocating for a credible and merit-based enlargement process.
