Croatia Promotes Return and Investment Opportunities to Diaspora in Argentina

Croatia is stepping up efforts to strengthen ties with its global diaspora, with a particular focus on Croatian communities in Argentina, one of the countries with the largest populations of Croatian descendants outside Europe.

The initiative aims to encourage members of the croatian diaspora to return, invest and build businesses in their ancestral homeland. Through a range of government-supported programmes, Croatia has introduced financial incentives, tax benefits and entrepreneurship schemes designed to make relocation and business development more attractive for returnees.

Among the most prominent measures is the “I Choose Croatia” (Biram Hrvatsku) programme, which offers support for self-employment and business creation, including grants for returnees who decide to launch ventures in Croatia. The programme has been expanded to include Croatian communities in overseas countries such as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Canada, New Zealand and the United States.

Croatian officials have increasingly highlighted the economic potential of the diaspora, emphasizing that many returnees bring valuable international experience, professional expertise and business networks. In addition to entrepreneurship incentives, recent policies have included support for housing, integration, employment and easier access to citizenship for descendants of Croatian emigrants.

The outreach to the Croatian community in Argentina reflects a broader national strategy aimed at addressing demographic challenges, attracting investment and strengthening connections between Croatia and its diaspora. Authorities hope that deeper cooperation with Croatian communities abroad will contribute to long-term economic development while encouraging more descendants of emigrants to reconnect with the country.
