Croatian Museums See Record Visitor Numbers In 2025

Surge reflects growing cultural tourism and broader appeal beyond the country’s coastline.

Croatia’s museums recorded a significant increase in visitor numbers in 2025, reaching record levels and underscoring the rising importance of cultural tourism in the country’s overall travel offer. The growth highlights a shift beyond traditional sun-and-sea tourism, as more visitors seek out historical, artistic and educational experiences across the country.

The increase was driven by both international tourists and domestic visitors, with museums benefiting from a strong tourism season and improved promotion of cultural heritage.

Institutions across major cities and smaller destinations alike reported higher attendance, pointing to a more diversified tourism landscape.

The trend is seen as a positive development for Croatia’s cultural sector, providing additional revenue streams and encouraging further investment in preservation and programming. As the country continues to position itself as a year-round destination, museums are playing an increasingly important role in extending the tourist season and enriching the visitor experience.
