Montenegro and Turkey Forge New Transport Alliance in Istanbul

Montenegro and Turkey have signed a memorandum of understanding in Istanbul, which officials described as a strategic step toward deeper cooperation in transport and infrastructure

Montenegro and Turkey have signed a memorandum of understanding in Istanbul, which officials described as a strategic foundation for enhanced cooperation in road, rail, air, and maritime transport.

The agreement, signed during the Global Transport Forum, was formalised by Montenegro’s Minister of Transport Maja Vukićević, Minister of Maritime Affairs Filip Radulović, and Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.

According to a statement from Montenegro’s Ministry of Transport, the memorandum marked the beginning of a new phase in bilateral relations, aimed at improving not only transport systems but also the exchange of experience and best practices in infrastructure development, digitalisation, sustainable mobility, and logistics.

The ministry said both countries had reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying bilateral ties and advancing joint projects designed to enhance regional connectivity and accelerate economic progress.

Vukićević reportedly stated that Montenegro considered Turkey a key partner in the field of transport infrastructure, expressing her expectation that the memorandum would serve as a foundation for implementing specific initiatives in the near future.

She added that the signing reflected an ongoing dialogue between the two nations and represented another step towards stronger regional and international cooperation.
