Italy and Montenegro Set to Deepen Economic Ties

Opportunities are here—we must seize them, leaders agreed as Italy and Montenegro prepare to tighten bonds through trade and diplomacy

During his first official visit to Rome, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić was said to have secured strong backing from Italy for his country’s EU aspirations and regional stability.

After a meeting with Italian President Giorgia Meloni, Spajić reportedly concluded his visit with talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.

According to a government statement, the two officials agreed to organise a business forum at the beginning of summer, with both sides stressing that the current moment offered significant opportunities for economic growth and stronger bilateral ties.

Tajani was reported to have reiterated Italy’s firm support for Montenegro’s European path and overall development.

The meeting also covered the security situation in Europe, with emphasis placed on the importance of Montenegro aligning with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, particularly in relation to Ukraine.

Spajić was said to have underlined Montenegro’s position as a reliable, credible, and predictable partner.

He also reportedly stated that EU membership and economic progress were key stabilising factors for the Western Balkans, expressing hope that Montenegro could join the EU during Italy’s presidency in early 2028.
