Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Honey Trade

Despite a rise in export value, Bosnia and Herzegovina remains heavily dependent on foreign honey, with imports far outpacing exports in 2024.

In 2024, Bosnia and Herzegovina faced a bittersweet paradox in its honey trade.

While exports saw a modest increase of 10.6% in value, totaling 266,437 BAM, they still lagged behind the burgeoning import figures.

The country imported a staggering 621.4 tons of honey, an increase of nearly 29%, while its own exports barely reached 10 tons—up by 45.7% from the previous year.

With the average price of exported honey at 26.30 BAM per kilogram, compared to just 7.36 BAM for imports, the disparity is striking.

Saudi Arabia remains Bosnia’s biggest market, receiving over 8 tons, followed by Jordan, the UAE, and Turkey.

Domestically, honey imports came from neighbouring Croatia, Serbia, and Hungary, among others.

Despite the small gains in exports, Bosnia’s honey industry faces a stark reality: a country rich in natural resources but still reliant on foreign supply.
