A Royal Legacy Restored at Villa Muhr

Nestled by the serene Bohinj Lake, the newly restored Villa Muhr revives its royal history while offering an exclusive, nature-filled retreat

After decades of decay and eventual collapse in 2014, the iconic Villa Muhr, once a royal summer residence and even a wartime hospital, has been brought back to life by Slovenian billionaire Damijan Merlak.

This restored gem, located near Bohinj Lake, stands as a tribute to its royal past, hosting the engagement of Prince George, Duke of Kent, and Princess Marina in 1934.

Originally built as a hunting lodge for a Viennese coal merchant, the villa later welcomed Yugoslav royalty, including Prince Pavle and Princess Olga.

Now, under Merlak’s stewardship, it has been transformed into a luxury hotel featuring four royal-themed suites, a conference hall, and a fine dining restaurant. Guests are greeted with champagne and personalized service, ensuring a unique, tranquil experience.

The villa blends tradition and innovation, using original materials like stone and wood, carefully preserved for authenticity. With private spa services and exclusive guided tours, Villa Muhr promises not just a stay, but a journey into the heart of Bohinj’s natural beauty and history.
