Slovenia and Albania Sign Agreement to Enhance Agricultural Standards and Practices

Slovenia and Albania have signed a cooperation agreement to enhance agricultural standards and practices, focusing on shared expertise in agricultural policies, plant health, and veterinary services, with a view to improving food security and aligning Albania with EU standards

Slovenia’s Agriculture, Forestry and Food Minister Mateja Čalušić and Albanian Minister Anila Denaj have signed a cooperation memorandum to boost collaboration in agricultural policies, plant health (phytosanitary measures), and veterinary services. The agreement outlines a commitment to share expertise and resources, aimed at improving agricultural standards and practices in both countries.

This memorandum serves as a framework for joint initiatives that will address challenges such as pest control, disease prevention in livestock, and the promotion of sustainable agriculture. It also supports Albania’s alignment with European Union agricultural standards, with Slovenia providing guidance based on its EU experience.

The agreement is expected to lead to practical outcomes, including the creation of expert working groups and collaborative projects to enhance food security and rural development in both nations. The signing took place during a regional meeting in Maribor, where representatives from other Southeast European countries discussed similar cooperative efforts.
